DOCTRINE OF EVIL: GOD IS A GOOD GOD BUT HE HAS GIVEN MAN A FREE-WILL,PART 3.
Of course, there are times when tragedy is not always caused by a specific sin! The example where Jesus’ disciples ask concerning about a man being born blind: “ Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus replied, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned…but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” (John 9: 2-3). Also, in the Old Testament, in the book of Job, Job’s friends are seen blaming his calamity on his sin, but at the beginning of the book it shows satan telling God that if He took everything away from Job, a righteous man, he would curse Him. God allowed satan to test Job but told him not to kill Job. So the calamity was not the cause of Job’s sin!
According to New Dictionary of Theology, to the question that if God is the perfect author of all things, and so everything He makes must be perfect, then how can His creatures(Adam) be the origin of evil, it answers in the following way: “ Without free choice, neither good nor evil could be chosen. Hence, if Man is ever to choose the good, he must have the freedom to choose evil as well. Therefore, since free will is the cause of evil, imperfection(evil) can arise from the perfect, indirectly though freedom . In other words, whereas God created the fact of freedom, man performs the acts of freedom. God made evil possible; creatures make it actual.”1
Through all this the goodness of God is seen , who took sin and its evil effects on Himself by sending Jesus, the Second Person of the Trinity, to earth to be subject to such evils as hunger, fatigue, betrayal, ridicule, rejection, suffering and death in order to negate sin , evil and its effects. “So God is a fellow sufferer with us of the evil in this world, and so able to deliver us from evil. Therefore God Himself, became the victim of evil so that He and we might be victors over evil.” 2 That shows God’s great love! When a person asks ‘How could a loving God send anyone to hell’ the answer lies in that God is giving that person at last what they always asked for. It is not God, but a person’s own choice that sends them to hell. So believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved! The reason to remember the birth of Our Lord Jesus who came in the flesh! And who died shedding His blood for the forgiveness of our sins; and rose again on the third day! And He lives!
