I stand for the view that the Scriptures were inspired by the divine breath of God and also for their inerrancy in that they are fully truthful in all of their teaching. Millard J. Erickson says: “ By inspiration of Scripture we mean that supernatural influence of the Holy Spirit on the Scripture writers which rendered their writings an accurate record of the revelation or which resulted in what they wrote actually being the Word of God.” 1 In 2 Peter 1: 20-21 it says, talking about the Scriptures of that day, which was the Old Testament: “ Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” This Scripture shows that it was the Holy Spirit through the prophets of old who was the writer of the Old Testament Scriptures, at His direction, even though it was written by human hands. Another Scripture which shows the divine breath that inspired all Scripture is 2 Timothy 3:16: “ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” And as the Scriptures have been expounded throughout history by the church leaders, even today, they have shown to do the work that is mentioned in that Scripture! They teach, they rebuke, they correct and they train as believers hear the word coming from their pastors!
