JESUS MINISTRY.
In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 4, we see Jesus, just come baptized in the Holy Spirit in the wilderness, preparing for ministry where He is fasting from food and water for 40 days and nights! Satan comes to tempt Him using Scripture from the Old Testament but Jesus counters with the right Old Testament Scripture and He prevails! So here we see that satan is very religious! But of course in an evil way! As the Scriptures say in 2 Corinthians 3:6: “For the letter kills but the Spirit gives life”.
Then we see Jesus going to Galilee where He starts choosing some of His 12 close disciples or apostles: first Peter and Andrew, brothers who were fishermen; they probably saw the great light that He was, for they left everything to follow Him! Then He chose James and John, fishermen brothers, and again they left everything to follow Him! After this, Jesus went about teaching in the synagogues, healing all kinds of diseases amongst the people! From here starts His fame, great multitudes following Him, of which many became His disciples!
Concerning the episode of Jesus confronting satan in the wilderness , it was probably told by Jesus to His apostles, as Matthew the author of this gospel wrote it. We see in a later chapter that Matthew was a tax collector who gets picked by Jesus to become one of the apostles. From here on, the rest of the accounts were written by the apostles who were eyewitnesses of all of Jesus’ doings for the next 3 years!
