PONTIUS PILATE PROFILE: HE REALLY TRIED BUT HE HAD TO MAKE A DECISION!

Pilate was the governor in Jerusalem while Jesus’ ministry was going on! “And delivered Him to Pontius Pilate, the governor.” Matthew 27:2. One day he was faced with a terrible dilemma: the chief priests were asking him to accuse Jesus as a ‘troublemaker’ to the Roman government, when in truth it was all about questions about their interpretation of the Jewish laws!(John 18:29-31;19:6-7;Luke 23: 2-4).

Jesus appeared to Pilate like an innocent person, who didn’t defend Himself at their accusation! “And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing. “ Matthew 27:12. Pilate’s wife told him not to meddle with Him, as she had had a disturbing dream about the whole ordeal the night before. “His wife sent to him, saying ‘Have nothing to do with that just Man, for I have suffered many things today in a dream because of Him.’ “ Matthew 27:19.

So he went into the courtyard and let the people decide between Jesus, who had called Himself ‘King of the Jews’, and Barabbas, a real delinquent. He was hoping Jesus would be set free! But when he asked the people, they cried out to free Barabbas and to crucify Jesus. They were being incited by the religious zealots! He really tried! But he had to send Jesus to the cross! He washed his hands from His blood!! ( Read Matthew 27:24).

P.S. Jesus was to go to the cross, of His own choosing from before time, to shed His blood in order that we might be saved and have ‘life and life more abundantly” (John 10:10). All we have to do is believe in Him, who came as the unblemished, gentle lamb, even though He was God Himself! He ministered on earth for nearly 3 years. Then He was crucified, shedding His blood and He was buried and on the 3rd day He rose again! He lives!

BLOOD OF JESUS
“And according to the law Almost all things are purified with blood, And without shedding of blood there is no remission.” Hebrews 9:22.
