The historical basis of the Jewish people is helpful in understanding present day Israel and the struggles they have gone through in order to survive as a nation and a people. We have to understand that they went into the diaspora after the Babylonian exile, that they have been a displaced people, many times been persecuted by so called ‘Christians’ even to the extent that the Holocaust occurred due to a man who was supposed to be a Christian.
So when we approach the Jewish people, this historical information will make us more understanding to their present day political struggles and how God still looks upon them as His Chosen people. They just need to accept the additional New Covenant fulfilled in the person of Jesus, where He shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins forever. That this was promised to them as an additional covenant in Old Testament Scriptures, which was extended to us, Gentiles, who have been grafted in to the olive tree. And that Jesus came as a Jew so when they believe in Him, they become the Messianic Jews, completed Jews, still being the physical Israel. That God is good and One: salvation offered to both Jew and Gentile if they believe in Him. And we have to be sensitive as to who is a practicing Jew and who is a Jew because of their heritage who follows their traditions and who is a secular Jew, since there are differing degrees of commitment amongst them. We have to understand that modern Western Jews have fully assimilated into Western society. And that most of their concerns and activities are similar to our own.
SALVATION TO ALL
“For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:12-13.
