WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT BEING DEMON-POSSESSED?
During Jesus’ three years in public ministry, we see in the gospels Jesus casting out demons and legions of demons out of persons who were crazed out of their minds! We see the demon-possessed in church where Jesus was teaching at the beginning of His ministry: “And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, ‘What have You to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come-to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent, and come out of him.’ And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him.” Mark 1: 23-26. This episode made Jesus’ fame spread!
Then there was the naked vagabond, like one of today’s homeless in the streets, who was driven into the desert. He kept breaking the chains and shackles that he was bound with, because he was so out of his mind. When Jesus met him He asked him ‘What is your name?’ and he said ‘Legion’ for many demons had entered him. They feared Jesus and He told them to go out of the man and to go into a herd of pigs, as the demons begged from Him, who then rushed down into the lake and were drowned! Then we see the man sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. He begged Jesus that he might be with Him but Jesus told him to return to his home and declare the wonders of God in his life! (Read Luke 8: 26-39).
The Word also talks about those who become free of demon-possession needing to fill their houses(bodies, soul and spirits) with the things of God such as the Word, praise, prayer, etc. before a worse thing comes upon them, that is, this demon brings more demons more evil than itself and they come and reside there and the last state of the person is worse than at the beginning. (Read Matthew 12: 43-45).
Then we also see seven sons of a Jewish high priest trying to cast out demons when they didn’t have Jesus in their heart so they had no authority of coming in the name of Jesus Christ! The demon speaks to these men telling them it knows Jesus and recognizes Paul, but that who were they? Since it didn’t recognize them, it jumps on them and overpowers them while they flee naked and wounded! (Read Acts 19: 13-16).
Today, there is still demon possessed people in our societies and to cast out these demons we have to come in the authority of the Lord Jesus whom we have confessed as our Lord and Savior in our lives. And like Him all we have to do is at times say ‘Be silent and come out of him in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth’ or ask it ‘What is your name?’ and when it answers tell them to come out in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! And all we really have to do is say, “Jesus, Jesus!”
Of course, not every person we see out of their minds is demon-possessed. As we know there is many people today who have chemical disorders of their brains! But usually these people, if they don’t take care of it with medicine(taking care of your house) are the most susceptible to become demon- possessed !
THE NAME OF JESUS
Jesus Your name is so Wonderful,
So full of life,
With so much authority!
Let me use Your name
To cast down every other name
That exalts itself over You!
Your name is life!
“Therefore, God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11.
