PREJUDICES WE HOLD ABOUT DIFFERENT RACES!

Having lived in the United States for over fifty years , I have found myself holding certain prejudices against certain people which I wouldn’t say are racist attitudes, but I have made ever so subtle assumptions about people depending on their ethnic background!

I have a Hispanic background, Colombian to be more specific and I’ve made comments about my own people such as : ‘if I tell her the truth she won’t be able to handle it!’; or ‘I have to be careful with him because he is Spanish’; or ‘they are so presumptuous: it is their Spanish in them!’.

These comments might appear innocent enough, probably you have made even more blunt comments, but we have to be careful about being drawn in by the spirit of racism. There should bee no place for slavery or racism in this day and age. According to Erickson 1 :The first point to be noted is that all races are included in God’s human family and thus are objects of His love. Yet the phenomenon of racial prejudice is still common. Widely differing groups have been singled out as targets of prejudice, which ha sometimes led to outright slavery, and at other times to less extreme forms of discrimination.”

Our Lord shows no preference amongst people: “In truth I perceive that God snows no partiality.” Acts 10:34. We are therefore to submit to God (James 4:7) and show no partiality amongst people either. We are to submit to one another in the fear of God (Ephesians 5:21) and follow the golden rule in our heart attitude towards other races: “ You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Romans 13:9.
