SITTING AT HIS FEET: SO HOW CAN WE DISCERN BETWEEN SPIRITS?

Scripture talks about the spirits that follow God(angels) and those spirits that rebelled against God and follow Satan(demons). Satan(Lucifer) was the most beautiful angel who exalted himself at his own beauty and talent and wanted to be like the Most High. (Read Isaiah 14: 12-15).

So how does this concern us? Well, the Scriptures also say to beware because Satan can appear as an angel of light: “And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14. So we have to beware of every voice that comes near to us! And the Lord shows us a way in which we can distinguish the spirits: “ Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God…by this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus, is not from God.” 1 John 4:1-3. So to every spirit that comes near to our ears we can ask it: ‘Did Jesus come in the flesh 2000 years ago?’ and if it answers ‘yes’, we know it is from God, and every one that doesn’t answer or mocks, we know it comes from the devil!

There is another Scripture which is helpful in showing us how to distinguish spirits: “No one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says ‘Jesus is accursed’ and no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except in the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:3. So another question we can pose to the spirits is: ‘ Who do you say is Lord?’ and if it answers ‘Jesus Christ is Lord’ then we know it comes from an angel of the Lord; and if it doesn’t answer or curses Jesus we know where it comes from!

Therefore according to Jude 1:9 if we come in contact with an evil spirit all we need to say is ‘the Lord rebuke you’, no more and no less! So this discerning of spirits is another gift of the Holy Spirit that we can all get when we know what the Word says! It can help us get off from much confusion in our personal lives! “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” 1 Corinthians 14:33.

HIS ANGELS

“For He will command
His angels concerning you
To guard you in all your ways.
On their hands they will bear you up,
Lest you strike your foot
Against a stone.” Psalm 91:11-12
