JESUS HATES SIN!
At the beginning of my journey with the Lord, I would sometimes get angry for no reason at all or so it seemed! I told my friend Linda about it, who was also a believer in Christ, more mature in her walk than me. She told me, somewhat concerned , as I felt bad about it, ‘Nancy, there is righteous indignation! Or Godly indignation! The Lord gets angry at times!’
She then went on to tell me about the case in the gospels, where Jesus gets angry with those doing business on the temple! He told them they were defiling the house of the Lord! “Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. And He said to them, ‘It is written,’ ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’, but you have made it a den of thieves.’ “Matthew 21:12-13.
According to Erickson 1 “Although God is not the enemy of sinners nor does He hate them, it is quite clear that God is angered by sin.” In Romans 5: 8-10 the apostle Paul says: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more, then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more , having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
Linda made me think about the concept of God getting angry with sin! I realized that some of the times I had been getting angry, not knowing why, was because of the hostility of sinners towards the Lord! I had been angry with sin! So the need to bring the gospel to the unsaved, to tell them that if we believe in the Lord Jesus we shall be saved! That if we believe in our hearts that God has raised Him from the dead, we shall be saved! Romans 10-9.
