As we grow on our journey with the Lord, we have to start eating of the meat of the Word! In Psalm 119:97-99 it says: “Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me…your testimonies are my meditation.”
One of my Dr teachers in the seminary taught us to take 2-3 verses of Scripture and read it about 5 times at one sitting. He said to pay attention to what was going through our minds and write it down. For a few times, repeat this again 5 times at a sitting, and again write down what would go through our minds. Repeat this action on the same verses for about 4 days! Then start with another 2-3 verses for the next 4 days and so on! That this was a way of meditating on the Word!
Start, for example with the Book of John! Start from the beginning or choose any chapter: I especially like using the words spoken by Jesus(they should be in red). This is a way of starting to chew on the solid food of the Word, as the Spirit gives it life! As it says: “ But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil” Hebrews 5:14.
THE WORD
“For the Word of God is living and active,
Sharper than any two-edged sword,
Piercing to the division of soul and of spirit,
Of joints and of marrow,
And discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrew 4:12
“All Scripture is given
By inspiration of God,
And is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
For correction, for instruction in righteousness
That the man of God may be complete.” 2 Timothy3:16-17.
