MOSES PROFILE: I MET YAHWEH
I had all the qualities of a brilliant leader or prophet. I had been raised by Pharaoh’s daughter as her son, even though I Moses was a Hebrew. I had mastered all the academia that is given to an Egyptian prince. At 40 years of age, I killed an Egyptian when I saw him abusing a brethren Hebrew. For this reason, I fled to the land of Midian, being deposed of all the glamour and prestige of having been raised as a nobleman. ( Read Exodus 2: 10-15).
In MIdian, I became a shepherd, tending to the care and needs of a flock of sheep, such as watering them to quench their thirst. I learned to lead them and keep them safe from the snares of the enemy. I got married with the Midian priest’s daughter, Zipporah, and had sons. I was content in this quiet community of shepherds. But then the Lord revealed Himself to me at a burning bush where He told me His name was I AM THAT I AM. He called me back to Egypt to lead His people, the Jews, out of the land of Egypt, and out of the house of bondage. ( Read Exodus 2: 16- 3:8).
I gave God all kinds of reasons why I did not think I was the right choice for this task. But God was patient with me. For example, when I told God I was not eloquent enough, God told me He would give the words I needed to say. Still I said I was not sure; God got a little angry but told me He would use my brother Aaron as the spokesperson. I also asked God: “ What if they do not believe me or listen to me, that You, God, has appeared to me?” God reassured me, showing me some signs, such as turning my rod into a serpent, then back to a rod. God also made my hand become leprous and then became well again.( Read Exodus 4-12).
So God showed me He would have His power, He would go with me and I was to use His name “ I AM WHO I AM.” All the signs and wonders He would show before the Hebrews and Egyptians through me, would come from the hand and power of God. I just had to go and follow His commands. I spoke to Him face to face and as such was able to write the Pentateuch ( first five books of Bible.) God would even organize the leadership but He wanted me to be the head leader. All that I had to do was to gather the elders of Israel at the direction of God. Still, I felt inadequate at fulfilling this task but at the end I always obeyed God for I had seen and talked to Him face to face. ( Read Exodus 3: 13-22).
Today, the Holy Spirit comes to teach us what to say. And the reason we receive the power of the Spirit is to exalt the name of Jesus, “I AM”, before a people who are in bondage to sin. As the name of Jesus is proclaimed, salvation and deliverance comes. So the people become born-again as they believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior. And all we have to do is obey the calling of God, and so that we are emptied of all our inadequacies and we become filled with the Holy Spirit. So there is victory when God goes with us, the same as it was with Moses.
