CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS!

As we are approaching Christmas there are two extremes: those who only see it as a source of profit and others who think we shouldn’t celebrate at all, Christmas or any other event! Both extremes fail to see the spirit of celebration, as Jesus showed that there is a place for celebration! First of all, Jesus was born around December and the real reason for celebrating Christmas! He was the greatest gift to mankind and anyone who calls on Him shall be saved (Romans 10:13). So this is a time of remembering His birth and being joyful about it, and see how we can cheer others!

Christmas is a good time to spend with family, showing the light of Jesus amongst them, where gifts and dinners and sharing is a good thing! Personally, I just spent 6 weeks fellowshipping with my family in Texas! I took all my pets with me and it was a good time to revive the times of old where we as a family shared , even though we didn’t know Jesus then! And this time, though it wasn’t specifically on December 25th, it felt like Christmas! So I was able to feel the spirit of sharing, of family, of reminiscing and letting the light of Jesus shine through us and all our creatures! We all felt the Spirit amongst us!

Also Jesus Himself, during His ministry participated in celebrations! We see it clearly in John 2, where He attended a wedding with the disciples and that’s where He turned the water into wine, the first sign of the beginning of His ministry with miracles! We also see the feast of Hanukkah that is celebrated at this time, as the feast of lights, where God made a miracle in the midst of the Israelis. The Jewish people celebrate this in remembrance of God’s deliverance! There are other celebrations , such as Passover, Easter, in which we remember God’s special ways with us! So if we celebrate with the right attitude, to remember the many blessings God has bestowed upon us, and to show His love to others who might not have found it yet, then we are to celebrate!

OUR SAVIOR
“Because if you confess with your mouth
That Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart
That God raised Him from the dead,
You will be saved.” Romans 10:9.
