THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: THE THIRD PERSON OF THE GODHEAD, PART 3.

In the New Testament, in Luke 4: 17-19 we see clearly the anointed Lord God Jesus: “ And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where, it was written, ‘ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’”

As for the Holy Spirit’s presence in the life of the believer, a person sees that when we anoint a person with oil in the name of our Lord God Jesus we are really pouring upon them the Spirit of God in order to accomplish His purpose, with power , thru that person. So when we have the anointing of the Lord Jesus, it means that we’ve had the Spirit of God poured in us in order to accomplish the Lord God Jesus’s mission for our lives!

When we are sick, the Scriptures say to call on the elders of the church so they pray and anoint us with oil in the name of Jesus in order to become well! (Read James 5:14). So here God’s purpose is to bring healing! There’s another Scripture which shows us that having the anointing of the Lord teaches us about everything we need for our walk, while we stay close to Him: “But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything—and is true and is no lie, just as it has taught you—abide in Him.” 1 John 2:27. Therefore, ministries of healing or evangelism are highly anointed in order to bring about salvation and people into the Kingdom of our Lord God Jesus. And for whatever high purpose God anoints them with His Holy Spirit, they need to follow closely by Him, letting His Spirit teach in all they need to do!

In a class called “Emotional Healing” Dr. Leah Coulter 1 taught that this type of healing deals with the integrative healing of body, soul, spirit and social aspects of a person’s personality and all directed by the Holy Spirit. There is the dimensions of repentance and forgiveness as seen in Luke 13:3 : “ If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him…”. Here we see if we have been sinned-against in our past, we need to, at the prodding of the Holy Spirit, confront the sinner of our inner-child of the past, and rebuke him, whether it is by telling him/her that they need to say “sorry” because they did sin against us. If they repent sincerely, then we are to forgive sincerely! In case the sinner is out of our reach, whether he/she has died, we don’t know their locality, or is dangerous to confront them, then we are to bring their deed before the Lord God Jesus, release it, so that He will take care of it. He will avenge as He says : “ Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12: 19. So closure of our damaged emotions will start taking place!

When we have received emotional healing ourselves, we can minister to others who are emotionally damaged, by walking alongside the Holy Spirit. It says in Romans 12: 15 to “ Weep with those who weep”. There is a relationship between inner healing and spiritual warfare; there are extremes: where someone denies completely the existence of demons oppressing us and others see demons everywhere and deny the need of psychosomatic medicine at times due to biological malfunctions! So there needs to be balance in ministry to ourselves or others! So emotional healing should come as the Holy Spirit leads in processes and encounters, as we become conformed into the image of the Lord God JesusChrist! “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God.” Romans 12:2

So in conclusion, the beginning of the Christian life should start with a born-again experience where there is a continuation of being transformed step by step into the image of Christ. Initially there should be an awesomeness as when a caterpillar finds himself now as a beautiful butterfly. Then, a person doesn’t know what the Spirit will do or where He will lead them each time He is invited to guide. But there should be a continual transformation as a person learns to yield to the prodding of the Spirit and they should want to be different today from what they were yesterday as the fruit of the Spirit becomes more manifest in them. “ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23.
