‘MY BLOOD OF THE NEW COVENANT!’

Back in 1985 I was sharing a condo with a girl, Libby. We were both attending the same church! One day I was reading a verse on Jeremiah, about the new covenant, where the law would be in our heart, that we wouldn’t need to be taught! “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: ‘I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, and saying, ‘Know the Lord.’” Jeremiah 31: 33-34.

I asked Libby if she could understand that Scripture. We both kind of agreed that that was kind of weird. Why would we then need to go to church under a pastor. So Libby said, ‘let’s write a letter to the senior pastor with our question!’ So we both wrote the letter! After a week, we didn’t hear anything back. We both said, ‘they will probably ignore it! Since it is a large church!’

But a few days later we received a letter from the church and we both said, ‘Oh wow!’ But to our surprise it was from his secretary saying they had referred the question to another staff pastor! To call him! We were both kind of disappointed since we had wanted to have an audience with the senior pastor! We both decided to think about it and after a while we both forgot about it! I think our motive about questioning the Pastor wasn’t quite right!

I did wonder through the years about that Scripture. I really couldn’t understand it completely! After a while I had some understanding about it but not completely and even today I have to read it asking the Spirit to give me understanding about it! My understanding presently, is that as Jesus shed His blood on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins and as we believe in Him as our Savior, then the Spirit comes alive in our spirit ; then the eyes of our heart know Jesus and Who He is! He talks to us through His Spirit! As it says in Matthew 26:28 :” Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.’” As we have the anointing of the Spirit, then we know all things! But still we have to hear the Word! As it says in 1 John 2:20: “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.”
