THERE IS LIFE IN THE POWER OF THE TONGUE!
In Proverbs 18:21 it says , “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Initially we get faith so we say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to Jesus: then if we say ‘yes’ we should pray for growth in faith, so we have faith believing to accomplish in our lives! When we speak out positive faith we are using it to bring about life for ourselves or for all those in our circle of influence. Life is in the power of the tongue!
It takes walking in our spiritual life to discern when we speak positive or when we are still speaking negative, as we bring much learned baggage from the past! We should bridle our tongue always trying to bless all that is around us and those who are around us! Of course we should use it also to “teach doctrine, reproof, correct, instruct in righteousness, inspire others” (2 Timothy 3:16). As it says in James 1:26, “If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.”
In Matthew 21:18-21 we see Jesus just having spoken to a fig tree, which bore no fruit, the following: ‘Let no fruit grow on you ever again’ and immediately the tree withered. So His disciples marveled and asked Him how that had happened so soon! He basically answered them ‘If you have faith and do not doubt anything is possible!’ Jack Hayford says1 “The authority to speak in the name of Jesus is based on our faith. Our faith is a function of our relationship to Christ and obedience to His Word. Our confidence is in knowing God; our faith can’t be wracked with doubt because ‘I Know Whom I have believed’ (2 Timothy 1:12).”
