ABOUT THE GIFT OF PROPHECY!

In Scripture, in the New Testament, it says that prophecy is a gift of the Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12: 8,10 it talks about words of prophecy as being a gift of the Holy Spirit that some in the body of Christ have!” To one is given through the Spirit the…to another prophecy…”. In the Old Testament, in Leviticus 19:31, it talks about spirits that talk through such people as mediums and wizards and also familiar spirits ,that usually come with the voices of persons we know! “Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”

So how can we know the difference between one and the other? In 1 Corinthians 12:10 it also talks that one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is the discerning of spirits, which we also learned in a previous blog! So we should ask the Lord God always to give us a discerning spirit to words that come our way, especially those that we are told are prophetic words for us! I think a way to test, is if we have a strong impression in our hearts about things we need to do in our lives, specially after we ask God for His will in our hearts, and then someone bears witness in his/her words to us to what we have in our hearts; then it can be a pretty good sign that it is a word from God, specially when someone tells us it is a personal word for us from God.

As it says in Matthew 7:15, some wolves come dressed as sheep, in order to devour! A personal case: about 5 years in my journey with the Lord Jesus, an elder Christian woman took me to a meeting: well, they were giving words of knowledge and this elder woman told me to go and ask them to give me a prophetic word. I took it on stride and followed her advice: well, she told me I was going to marry and become a missionary and travel all over the world! Well, I forgot about it, but later realized the elder Christian woman was trying to set me up with men in order to fulfill the prophecy! I, for one, had never held any desire in my heart to become a missionary and live in another country! And the guys she tried to set me up with really weren’t my type! So I always ignored her!

By the way, from the time I became born-again I did have a great desire to win souls for the Lord Jesus; I did not want to see anyone lost, more like an evangelist wherever I was in life! And the closest I got to the lady’s word, as not to disregard completely the prophecy, was having this blog website and proclaiming the Word in the different languages! So I do see it as going into all the world 35 years later! I do have to repent because initially I thought the woman who gave me the prophecy was no more than a witch! I think we should always be stubborn for the Lord’s way in our life in order to do the best for God! As Jesus told the woman in Matthew 9:22: “According to your faith let it be so!” Our hearts should always be after God’s heart!

A TREE AND ITS FRUIT

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits.” Matthew 7: 15-16.
